Library

The Library with its bright colourful new furniture and ever-changing displays provides a warm and peaceful space for everyone to enjoy and share. Mrs Jackson is our librarian at Willandra Primary School.

Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 are timetabled for one class visit to the library weekly where they can browse and borrow books. All students must have a library bag to borrow and all types of bags are acceptable from cloth to plastic files and the durable WPS bags available from the front office.

Students also visit before and after school for an extra book to read. The Library is open at lunch time for activities, puzzles and games.

All students enjoy having story time in the library whether reading alone silently or having a story read to them. Senior students also make use of this time for information gathering for research using the web app or completion of set topics using online and book resources.  As an extension, Year 6 students are given guidance to act as library assistants during lessons as they discover how to return and reshelve Fiction and Non-Fiction texts.

The Library celebrates special literary days such as Children’s Book Week, Simultaneous Story time and Western Australian Young Readers Awards with activities, displays and participation with dress up parades. Similarly the library also supports whole school themed events with Ted’s birthday, NAIDOC Week, Anzac Day and National Tree Day.

You’ll never know what you’ll find in our library – dragons, unicorns, dinosaurs or even a bear in there reading a book.
