'“We are proud of our safe, productive and positive learning environment”

Welcome from the Principal

The school has a focus on positive school improvement and is developing strengths in a shared leadership framework. We are particularly proud of our positive, nurturing learning environment where staff make a difference to students and their families every day.

Willandra Primary school has an ICSEA of 928 and 56% social disadvantage. Success for all students underpins our vision, planning, school operations and culture at Willandra Primary School. For this to happen effectively, we have developed a collaborative team culture with a focus on a whole school Values system which is the heartbeat of our school.

Despite the challenges and disruptions to learning caused by the pandemic, Willandra Primary School has proudly achieved strong pathways to school improvement. The onset of Covid in our community was embraced by high quality preparedness to provide continuity of learning for our students. Our Remote Learning Plan included the community-staff, parents and students becoming upskilled in Online Learning and Technology to maintain good communication during the most difficult times.

Our NAPLAN results were pleasing in 2021 and the school performed to capacity, achieving positive growth in most areas. Our community remained connected and throughout the restrictions we were still able to progress the school plan and prepare for a School Review in November 2021. The School Review was based on thorough school self-assessment using the Electronic School Self-Assessment Tool. The three-year journey of our school Business Plan culminated in a successful School Review with many commendations and recommendations to take us into the next Business Plan Cycle.

Throughout the year we celebrated achievements such as having an Education Assistant finalist in the WA Public Education Awards. Staff worked tirelessly to cater for the needs of students in all areas but specifically in Pastoral Care. The Student Services Team has been an outstanding addition to our school ensuring that our school priority of Student Wellbeing was catered for in many ways.

Our specialist programs are noteworthy for 2021, providing high quality extension programs in Visual Arts, Science, LOTE and Music. These have lifted student engagement and helped to build a positive learning environment.

Our Values Program and TED have been maintained though out all the ups and downs of the past year and the behaviour and progress of the students is a testimony to the positive progress and hard work of staff and the commitment of families to support our learning community.

It is with great pride that I commend all stakeholders of the Willandra Primary School community and thank them for their support over the last 12 months. We are proud of what we have achieved and look forward to continued growth to ensure our students and staff are given the best opportunities to succeed.
